Cherokee Heights
Possible Park Development

These notes are from Elta Livingston regarding Cherokee Heights Park located on the corner of Northview Drive and Dunbar Street.

1. FRF wrote a grant request to Blue Cross, but the plan was not accepted in 2006. We'll see if they will resubmit a revised plan in 2007.
2. An architect lives across the street from the park and could possibly be of help with design or plans.
3. An employee of Rainbow has offered to build some garden plots for neighbors to adapt or use personally.
4. A dog run on the north end has been suggested. It, of course, should be fenced.
5. A walking trail should be included on the perimeter of the park with warm-up area included.
6. Swings and climbing area for children.
7. Planting areas prepared where we could have a "plant" day for interested people to work. Bulbs planted for yearly blooms. Perhaps garden centers will provide plants. Nell Newman and Felder Rushing live in Fondren and may assist with this.
8. People who might contribute funds: Sister Dorothea at St. Dominic's (who is interested in developing this park), Blue Cross (because of wellness), a friend at Trustmark Bank and Rainbow Co-op.
9. The area needs water and power. Because the city owns the park, perhaps they will assist with water and maybe Entergy will help supply either/both equipment or power for electricity (needed for security).

The above includes some of what we discussed. It could be a beginning place for us to actually develop this park.
